It's such a wonderful life.
Okay, just a heads up..... this is gonna be a long one. I have a lot of catching up to do!
So, to start this off, let me just say how
unbelievably blessed I am to be living the life I am living. I want to be able to share it with my family & friends.... so here I am... finally getting with it in the blogging world!
I married the most amazing man I've ever known, my wonderful husband, BobbyJames Perrin Hubbard (I know, it's a mouth-full... but a CUTE mouth-full, right!?), a little over 3 months ago. We were married
for time & all eternity in the Oakland California Temple on April 20, 2012. It was the most beautiful day of my life and I will never forget the love I felt for that boy as we became
husband and wife.
But.......... before I get too far into that, I want to do some catching up with,' Our Story.'
So, for our wedding website, I did a little rendition of 'Our Story'.... so I'm just going to do the ol' copy & paste trick here to catch us up. I'll add some pictures along the way for flavor!
{This is how it began.}
4 years ago a girl named Becky met a boy named BJ
and now they are going to live happily ever after.
Our story is kind of a long story. It's a good story though, a little complicated, a little confusing at times, but in the end, it all makes perfect sense. It was all worth it. We know that every part of our story was a piece of the puzzle that got us to where we are today... and we are so grateful we are here, together.
It all started at Youth Conference. BJ and I are BIG fans of Youth Conference now. Especially Regional Youth Conference! Who knew that we would end up meeting the person we would spend the rest of our lives with...
It was May 30, 2008. We were both 18 years old, both getting ready to graduate from High School. Youth Conference that year was a big regional one with stakes from Northern California down to Carson City, Nevada. It was held at the UNR Campus. (BJ thought he was big man on campus that weekend... obviously I thought he was too!)
I got there early because my Mom was one of the leaders putting on the conference and so I had to help her get set up and check kids in. I was sitting at a little table outside in the hot sun, checking in kid after kid when
I saw him. This was the second time I had seen this
boy. The first time I had seen him was at a Reno Stake Dance on New Years Eve.
He caught my eye that night.
I thought he wasREALLY handsome AND he could dance. I didn't have the nerve to go talk to him (especially since I was there with my boyfriend at the time!) so I just left that night with him on my mind. So here we are, almost 4 months later. I'm sitting here in the hot sun and I see him AGAIN. Now he has caught my eye,twice. I instantly started giving myself silly little pep-talks on how I needed to talk to him sometime that weekend. Well, obviously.... we talked!
The picture at the very top is of the
MOMENT we met. Some of my friends and I were walking to the dance when we saw these two boys in hideous orange thrift shop pants, white shirts and ties that looked like they were made out of carpet from the 70's. One of them was
that "boy", BJ, and the other was his best friend, Derrik. They were standing next to an emergency pole, pointing up at it like weirdos and taking pictures of themselves. We started laughing at them and asked them what they were doing. Somehow we ended up posing like weirdos with this emergency
pole, taking pictures with them.
That's where it all began.
A few weeks after Youth Conference ended, June 16, 2008, I got a message on, yes.... facebook. This "boy" commented on one of my Senior Pictures. It said:
"So not to be weird or anything but you have really pretty eyes! Just thought you should know!"
(This is the picture he commented on!)
So, we started talking, a lot.
He took me on our first date a week later. We met in Reno (half-way between us) and went to Chili's and to the drive-in!
We had a blast.
So, we started meeting in Reno to go on dates and we really started to like eachother. I thought he was the cutest thing on the planet (still do!) We dated the entire summer and had a lot of fun together....
{Summer 2008}
...but eventually the summer ended, and so did we. I was moving to Idaho to go to school
and BJ was getting ready to go on a mission. We both know, now more than ever that everything happens for a reason and the timing just wasn't right.
BJ went on his mission to Dallas, Texas and I went to BYU-I for a year then moved back home and got my RDA license. It was a good two years for both of us.
We both learned so much about ourselves and life, made so many lifelong friends and wonderful memories during that time. We wouldn't trade it for the world. Everything always works out in the end is something we've both learned.
We wrote back and forth a few times during those two years, always trying to keep in touch with eachother... and before you know it, BJ came home. It was August 31, 2011!
He called me the next day, we had a nice chat (I was so excited that he called me!!!) and we both decided that we wanted to see each other before he left to go to school at LDS Business College in Salt Lake City... the next week! He invited me to his homecoming the next day and... I went! It was so good to see him and his family again after almost 3 years. We went on a date to Reno after that, spent the entire day together and ended with a drive-in movie, just like our first date.
As you can imagine, the date went well! Really well. We started dating again even though it was long distance. We knew we wanted to be together. During that time, I made a few trips out to Utah and spent Thanksgiving with his family in Gardnerville.
We fell right back into love, and it didn't take long for us to know that this was right and we wanted to be together, forever. So, here we are! I moved to Salt Lake City on December 9, 2011 and on December 26, 2011, BJ was down on one knee asking me to be his wife.
Guess what... I said YES
So there we are, engaged and happy as can be!
Here are some of our favorite engagement pictures.
We set the date to be married in the Oakland California temple for April 20, 2012. To help count down the days, we made an adorable paper chain. It still took FOREVER.
FINALLY, the big day arrived. It was the most beautiful day of our lives. ALMOST everyone we love was there. I was really missing my brother Darren who is on his mission in Dallas, Texas (yes, the same mission as BJ's!)... BUT, I know that he is where he needs to be and where Heavenly Father needs him. Well, we were married on Friday and then Saturday, we had a reception in Susanville, California. So many wonderful people, family & friends came to help. We are so grateful.
{I know this is a lot of pictures.... but it was just such a beautiful day. I can't help but share.}
{ALMOST everyone that came to the temple}
Here are some pictures of my sweet little niece, Ella and some of our BEST FRIENDS that came all the way to Oakland for us. It meant so much.
So after we were married, BJ & I drove to Lake Tahoe for the night. It's such a beautiful place. The next day we were up and on our way back to Susanville for our reception that night. It turned out beautifully, exactly how I pictured it. We had SO much help. Some honorable mentions go to... FIRST: My Mom (I can't even begin to describe how much work she put into that day for us), my Dad (for putting up that crazy tent for a second time now. Good thing he only has two daughters!) Christina and Tim, Daniel, Grandparents, Geegee & Papa, Harry & Sue, Sylvia & Frank, and some of the best friends in the world, Kaden, Kyler, Tara & Shauni for all your hard work on making the reception beautiful.
Here are just a "few" pictures from that night.
{Special thanks to Gena Ellena for taking our beautiful pictures & Trish Gilmore for taking pictures during the reception. It's so wonderful to have them to look back on}
{Dance}
We love our family.
We love each other.
We love life.
This is our love story.
The beginning of our...
Happily Ever After.
